Literacy is the ability to make meaning from the printed word.

Speech is the ability to produce speech sounds in a meaningful way. This involves a complex interplay of motor planning, motor execution and  sensory feedback of verbalisation.

Receptive Language is the ability to understand words, sentences and/or hand signs while Expressive Language is the ability to use words and sentences to communicate ideas and feelings.

Language can be verbal (using the spoken word) or non-verbal (using signs or an Alternative or Augmentative Communication (AAC) device).
